2018 has been the most exhilarating, focused, and eventful period of my life-thus far. Once I discovered my purpose in life, I dedicated myself to living and manifesting my dreams without fear. This journey challenged me, inspired me, and taught me to see past my fears and insecurities.  As always, receipts from my adventures are commemorated in the ever evolving vault that is my closet. 
This summer my fashion consumptions were fueled by the fun and flare every hue of yellow provided.  Anyone who knows me is aware that I L-O-V-E the colour yellow. No other colour accentuates my melanin more strikingly, or brings me unbridled joy.  It’s a bold yet delicate colour and no matter the fabric or the print- yellow illuminates the essence of my soul. I feel like a queen every time I rock this colour. That became the catalyst to my creating this summers 2018 Look book. I hope you enjoy!

This week’s Fash Find feature includes some fabulous beauty products I recently purchased. It’s been a ‘Best of Sephora Winner’ and has quickly become the number one staple in my beauty routine. The Philosophy Collection is designed to soothe even the most dry and sensitive skin.


I’ve been using the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser as well as the Micro Delivery Exfoliating Facial Wash since I was introduced to it back in the summer of 2015. It’s become the beauty secret that I share with family, friends, and strangers alike. Along with the cleanser and facial wash, I’ve added a few new products to the mix.

The act of being selfish typically creates a negative implication in the mind. It’s an adjective I once despised being associated with; but the more I experience, the more my understanding begins to exist in shades of gray. For as far back as I can remember, selfishness has always been frowned upon in my family. My role as the eldest sibling made the act of being selfish a very vile and ghastly one. Not wanting to share and acting in my own self-interest was profoundly displeasing to my parents. I was taught that a lack of consideration towards the need/wants of others was unfeeling and simply unacceptable.




After a quarter century of applying this practice I came to find aspects of it quite detrimental to my overall wellbeing. Being selfless proved to be a tiresome and unfulfilling approach to life. I became a slave to other people’s perceptions and their expectations steadily began to hinder my happiness. I found positivity in a certain kind of selfishness and it’s been a pivotal part of my development. Everyone is on their own unique journey towards finding their purpose in life, therefore having a dream and choosing to chase it will require one to be selfish in some aspects. By remaining true to myself and my dreams the life I truly desired began to manifest without feelings of guilt. For anyone on a journey to achieving inner wholeness; these are my 5 tips on how to balance the light and dark nature within by being selfish.  




Recognizing Types of Selfishness: Selfishness is said to be the root of sin. It’s chiefly viewed as the worst human characteristic anyone could possess because it depicts greed, aids in manifesting cruelty and comes off as one lacking humanity. On the contrary, it is also a catalyst to many people’s unhappiness. As a society we’ve been conditioned to lead a selfless life; but those acts of selflessness have a tendency to hinder our dreams and stifle our aspirations. Adhering to the principles and demands of others is the beginning of physiological suffering. Everyone is selfish- But selfishness can be either unhealthy or healthy. Prioritizing what is best for you in various situations/aspects of your life should be thought of also as self-love.



Balance Your Light & Dark Nature: Life is filled with various polarities. When one integrates their dark and light nature, a sense of wholeness is achieved. Going too dark or too light causes one to lose the vibe of wholeness, thus creating an unstable mode. In the same way, choosing the right kind of selfishness is integral to achieving a sense of wholeness. Think of an apple tree, it could not offer oxygen for us to breathe, bare apples for us to eat, or provide shade on a sunny day if it did not operate through self-care by absorbing water and light from the sun to grow strong and healthy. Having the courage to be straightforward about your needs in a way that does not harm or reject others, adds value to those relationship and shows empathy. This is how a balance between the light/dark natures of selfishness is achieved because you’re aware of your needs and choosing the right path to achieving those needs without betraying others or yourself.



Clarity Is Key: Healthy selfishness feels like taking a risk. It does not mean disregarding other people's feelings and needs. It simply means we do not disregard ourselves to please others or to support others at our own expense. Hence why being in a state of confusion about the clear difference between the two kinds of selfishness may be detrimental. This is why communicating your needs as clearly as possible is the key. We please others and put ourselves either second or last when dealing with family, friends, and partners. Often times, we may need some time to ourselves to keep our sanity, regroup, or simply indulge in new experiences to clear our minds. The truth is that even when we try to avoid selfishness by suppressing our true desires, we are still selfish. This kind of selfishness is self-destructive and often masked as a celebration of selflessness. 



Honor Your Needs: It is not wrong to want to be healthy and happy. It is not wrong to want to feel valued, appreciated and respected. It is not wrong to be the best person you can be. Believing we are selfless and ending up miserable does not serve the world. So, if solitude is what is needed for you to survive the rest of the week and find solace- do it. If moving away from home, leaving a dead end job, or purging toxic people from your life, is what is needed to achieve your goals-do it.



Be an Ambassador of Your Intentions: To avoid being a victim to the assumption of others we must communicate our intentions as to not be greedy or insensitive to those we love. By clearly communicating why you cannot do what is expected of you at that time or why you have made another choice contrary to what they wanted for you, fosters new understanding and maintains respect. Those we love may understand, but remember they have no obligation to agree with you. Nevertheless, you have chosen a healthy type of selfishness; that requires you to love yourself first and to put yourself first before you do things for others.

It is a natural part of the human existence to experience stress from time to time. The reality is- stress is a part of life and learning to cope in healthy ways is essential to our growth and evolution. For me, a weekend escape to a nearby town with some of my favorite human beings, tends to do the trick.


This adventure led us on a road trip to Tobermory, a harbor village on the Bruce Peninsula in the province of Ontario. Hiking along the trails provided the crisp fresh air I needed. The vast scenery of water washed waves of inspiration upon me and left me feeling fired up! This energy of friendship aligned with the sublime elements of nature filled my soul.


 It was in that pivotal moment I realized how important it is that we all decide to be happy. Yes, getaways/vacations are great but they aren't always practical when it comes to coping with everyday stress. As a result, I've settled on 5 essential tips one can implement on a daily basis to reduce stress and live a happy life. 


1)    : Stay In The Present Moment :

The main ingredient to leading a happy life is living in the here and now. Growing up our family mantra was the 5 P's to success; 'Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. Sure it can, but the true mark of intelligence is knowing when to let go. I am a firm believer that life is composed of those defining moments that aid us in connecting the dots which lead us to our destiny. The present is a gift, so it’s vital that we treat it as such and appreciate the joy it brings. Yes, do your best to prepare for tomorrow- but know when to let go and trust that the future will unfold as it should. 


2)  : Stay Fueled-H2O & Hormone Health:

Drinking water is essential to hydrating your body first thing in the morning. it helps wake you up and is an excellent way to flush your body first thing to keep you regular- a key factor in staying healthy. 

Our hormones completely control how we feel, act, think, and even how we treat others. Though rest, stress management, and staying active play a part, nothing acts like directions for your cells like food does. Certain foods can disrupt hormonal function and possibly even lead to mood disorders, anxiety, or depression. Some of the most common foods to avoid are; dairy, gluten, processed foods, and sugar. 

Even for those not allergic to gluten, it seems to play a part in the way the brain feels, thinks, and can lead to depression and hormone disorders. Most dairy products have largely been linked to brain fog, estrogen imbalance, and overall anxiety and depression. 

One reason these foods create a problem is due to the protein structures they contain which interferes with optimal hormone processes. Sugar and processed foods also upset insulin levels and can interfere with optimal hormone function as well. Eat whole and unprocessed foods whenever possible. Nuts, seeds, leafy greens, vegetables, and fruits are some of the best foods to supplement our brain on an ongoing basis. 





3)  : Learn To Say 'No': 

If it makes you happy, do it. If it doesn't, then don't. Saying 'No' is essential to one’s overall health and happiness. Without being impolite to the feelings of those you love, simply prioritize your happiness. Self-care is vital to leading a healthy well balanced life, so do not feel guilty for the things you do not wish to do. 



4)   :Practice Gratitude:

Being aware of what's good in life is one thing; being grateful for what is good is another. Gratitude relieves us from negative and toxic feelings such as; jealousy, bitterness, regrets, and anger. Focusing on the positives can increase your happiness immensely and enhance feelings of empathy towards others. Accepting what is and being at peace with events that unfold in our lives takes great courage and cultivates joy. This joy naturally aids in relieving stress and anxiety by releasing endorphin into our bloodstream, a chemical which makes us happy. 


5)  :Practice Forgiveness: 

Forgiveness offers both freedom and peace of mind, yet most choose to hold on to the pain, bitterness, and resentment of their past. Holding onto negative memories burdens the heart, mind, and soul. Your health and well-being are closely connected to your happiness, therefore practicing forgiveness will contribute significantly to them.

Legendary American fashion photographer Bill Cunningham once wrote, "fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life". I had a visceral reaction the first time I read that quote. Fashion is deeply personal for all those who connect with its beauty. Over the course of my evolution as a woman; fashion has remained my armour, my solace and my power. I feel a deep kinship to fashion as it acts as my framework for life. Each time I get to style a client- my soul ignites. 


What began as a casual phone call among two best friends quickly evolved into a weekend trip, in honour of Canada's 150th Anniversary Of Confederation, to The 2017 JUNO Awards hosted at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ottawa. 


For the second year in a row, my dear friend would grace the stage in stunning fashions as the trophy bearer for the awards show.



Imagination, innovation, expression and fantasy snowballed into one unforgettable weekend adventure.

I had a precise vision of the look I wished to create for Jordan.  While browsing fashion boutiques on Queen Street West downtown Toronto, we stumbled upon a proverbial treasure box filled with exquisite fashion pieces. This little fashion forward treasure is the boutique, Zumel&Co. 




It wasn't long before I spotted and fell in love with this elegant yet edgy scoop neck backless sequins jumpsuit.

Heels: STEVE MADDEN, the IRENEG. -This suede stunner features a trendy mid heigh mirrored metallic block heel with a gleaming gold finish. A simple ankle strap finishes off this chic sandal with a flirty touch.-


Through vision, trust and teamwork a look that rides the very thin line of being sexy yet classy emerged.
